From the kickoff Dalziel were the dominant team, and if it was not for try saving tackles from McCallum and McIver, East Kilbride would have been two tries down.

After 10 minutes of pressure, EK got into the Dalziel half and came away with a score. From a lineout on Dalziel’s 10 metre line, the EK forwards drove a maul to the try line, McIver picked up the ball and dived over.

From the kickoff, Young caught the ball and drove forward and when he went to ground Mavers gathered the ball. From the base of the ruck, Stott broke up to Dalziel’s ten metre line before being tackled. Thompson was on hand to receive a pass and score in the corner.

The next kick off was caught by Douglas who sidestepped his way to the 5 metre line. MacKenzie backing up caught the pass to score.
Dalziel then tried to vary their kickoff by going long, but the ball was caught by Thompson on the touchline only to do one of his trademark runs, beating 6 players and scoring between the posts.

At the beginning of the second half, EK lost ground because of ill-discipline and talking back to the referee. Never acceptable or wise.
The half was evenly balanced until EK got a scrum on Dalziel’s 22. In a move from the training ground, McIver executed a No8 pick up, drawing the defence, before releasing McCallum to power over the line.

EK began to dominate the game and when the opposition went down to 13 players EK sportingly took 2 players off. The final score came from EK pressure. Dalziel had a scrum on their own 5 metre line, their inside centre attempted to clear the ball while under pressure from the EK back row.

Hynde caught the ball and drove forward. He was stopped short of the line. EK’s forwards drove on and from the base of the ruck, McIver drove again before passing to Hynde who scored from short range.
Rafferty scored 3 conversions.

This was a good all round performance by the whole team; every player contributed to the win.

Man of the match was Robbie McCallum for his all round play.
